In this session, we will explore resilience in times of adversity, including:
- the science behind wellbeing and performance under pressure,
- hard-won learning,
- simple strategies for connection, sparking wellbeing conversations, and supporting wellbeing and performance when the pressure is on.
Learning and development professionals play a vital role in supporting an organization to be "up for the challenge" in challenging times. Explore simple methods for connection, sparking wellbeing conversations and supporting performance under pressure. And have some fun connecting with others along the way.
This session will contain a mix of science, stories, practical activities, and connection.

Jolie Wills
Co-Founder & Director, Hummingly
Jolie is a cognitive scientist. She has supported teams under prolonged pressure in the most challenging post-disaster environments. Jolie conducted international research, aided by a Winston Churchill Fellowship, to explore strategies for supporting people to survive and thrive through adversity. Jolie has studied how the mind works under prolonged pressure, how we make decisions, how our reactions and behaviors are impacted by stress and the impact on individuals, teams and organizations.
Jolie is a co-founder of Hummingly - upskilling people to be up for the challenge. Hummingly card decks and workshops aggregate the expertise of over 100+ crisis leaders, thousands of disaster survivors, and scientific insights from cognitive psychology into practical tools and strategies for leaders and teams facing adversity.
Jolie is a Winston Churchill fellowship recipient, a Leadership New Zealand alumna, an Edmund Hillary Fellow. co-author of Leading in Disaster Recovery: A Companion Through the Chaos, Chair of the Australasian Women in Emergencies Network and an advisor to the global Counter Terrorism Prevention Network.
