I attended the ATD International Conference and Expo (ICE) in Atlanta, Georgia last month. It was a fabulous time of learning and networking. The Expo was phenomenal too with over "400 world-class training vendors." Tony Bingham, ATD President and CEO gave an update on the future of learning and a big topic is micro-learning. He spoke about how two to five minutes learning segments that are relevant and timely is what the millennials will expect.
Rocky Mountain Chapter had enough members who had registered using the ChIP Code of CH6046 to attend ICE that we were able to pull a "Chapter Team" (five or more) together. In turn, ATD national provided each of the seven attendees a refund due to them for the discounted registration as a "Chapter Team" attendee. That's a win-win for all of us since the chapter earns a small percentage for each conference registrant.
Great news! ICE will be in San Diego next year, May 6-9, 2018 so you'll want to put that on your calendar. The "2018 Super-Early Bird Rate (Save $75!) ends June 30, 2017. If you are interested in volunteering, send an email to Rebecca Everett at firstname.lastname@example.org to get on her email list. For each day you volunteer, you get a free/complimentary day to attend ICE. You can also volunteer for a certificate program but those days are separate from the conference. I was able to attend ICE this year by volunteering two days and receiving two days free. What a deal!
Big news! Denver will host ICE again in 2020, May 17-20. This will be a fantastic opportunity for our chapter to lead the volunteer recruitment and scheduling efforts for ICE in 2020. It's a lot of hard work and we will need a lot of help. Again, volunteering is a great way to be able to attend this prestigious international conference and expo for free registration.
For a brief chapter update, I would like to announce that we have a new President Elect this year who will serve as our chapter President in 2018. Jean Eckhoff, our fabulous VP Programming, has been voted in by our members for this role. She will serve in a dual role for the remainder of the year while she onboards our new VP Programming, Ivelise Zambrano-Herrera. Ivelise just earned her Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) certification in May. Please send a note of congratulations to Jean and Ivelise at email@example.com. See our Chapter Leadership page for more about Jean and Ivelise. We are so happy to have this dynamic duo in key roles as we move forward.
I hope to see you at the June event. We have a wonderful networking bash planned for Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 5:30-7:30 PM at the ART Hotel again. It promises to be a great success. Bring your business cards and be ready to make new connections. See you there.
