December 2016 President's Message

Dear ATD Rocky Mountain Chapter Members,

Thank you for making 2016 such a success! At our holiday party last week, we had the opportunity to give special thanks to over 40 volunteers who stepped up and made so much possible this year. This included people who have helped with the registration table, helped book and plan events, worked on our newsletter and our website, planned for speakers, run our finances, served on the board, and everything in between. We are a chapter that is run by the members, for the members, and all of your volunteering makes that possible. Thank you!

We gave out special awards of recognition for "Outstanding Contributions" to past-president, Becky Magnotta, and president-elect, Yvonne Bogard. Becky directed all of the volunteer coordination and operations efforts for the International Conference and Expo (ICE) here in Denver this year - that was over 250 volunteers! She also helped us secure our August 2016 Chapter of the Month win with her innovative approach to finding a fabulous VP of Finance for the chapter.

Yvonne not only stepped up and served in various capacities this year - President-Elect, VP of CPLP Study Group, and VP of Technology, not to mention always filling in whenever needed - but she also won the Chapter Excellence Award for her pioneering and leadership in creating a virtual CPLP Study group that is spreading across all the chapters like wildfire and is making it that much more possible for people to get support in studying for their Certified Professional in Learning and Performance certification. We are so fortunate to have her stepping into the president's role in 2017!

I also want to acknowledge the rest of the 2016 Board of Directors. Megan Flori, VP of Finance; Sue Fody, VP of Volunteers and an active member of the ICE Volunteer Committee; Stephanie Lang, VP of Communications; Michele Padilla, Past President; and Nathan Singsen, VP of Programming. Thank you to all of you for making this year so successful. We're fortunate to have those board members remain on the board (though in some different positions) in 2017, and we'll also be joined by Jean Eckhoff as VP of Programming; Shawn Evans as VP of Sponsorship; and Ginger Nichols as VP of Technology. Nathan will be stepping into the VP of Community Outreach role, and I'll be passing the presidential baton onto Yvonne.

It has been a wonderful year in membership: we have increased our membership this year by 20%, and also increased our joint membership to 57%! Those are great increases, and we go into 2017 with a focus on engaging all of our new and continuing members. 2017 will bring some new initiatives - from increased committee involvement opportunities, to a new Executive Advisory Committee key to outreach, to more community partnership, and the list goes on. Yvonne will have plenty of great new movement to share with you in 2017.

So it is with a huge thank you that I sign off on my final president's message for 2016. Enjoy your holiday celebrations, ATD-RMC, I look forward to seeing you in 2017.

Warmly,

Robin Doss

2016 ATD-RMC President
