Meet Elizabeth Bayee, now the Director of Certifications for the ATD Rocky Mountain Chapter.

Elizabeth, we're excited to have you on board as the Director of Certifications! What interested you in this role?

I participated in the study group in the Summer / Fall of 2018. I enjoyed learning the capability model from my peers in the cohort, as well as the many guest speakers who had specialized in a specific area of the model. I kept my account active and have been a “ghost” observer of the activities and cohorts since, with a sincere desire to jump in some time. Fortunately, my work schedule has changed and given me greater freedom with my time and I was excited to see the opportunity to give back. Participating in the Summer/Fall 2018 cohort was exactly what I needed to keep my study of the capability model on track, and truly prepare me for the exam. I am excited to give back to others who want to take that next step and desire to learn through the community to achieve their goal of passing the CPTD exam.

Do you have any specific plans/ideas you're eager to start working on?

Yvonne and others have pioneered the CPTD study group. The ATD Rocky Mountain Chapter was one of the first to put forth the cohort idea and saw the eagerness and interest in the ATD community. It has grown and become recognized as an investment that is worth making. I am standing on the shoulders of all of those who have gone before to bring this opportunity to a national platform. I look forward to continuing the efforts and since I will be a new set of eyes, looking for opportunities to refine and grow what is already in place.

Tell us a bit about your journey earning your CPTD.

I saw the opportunity to expand my learning from where I was in the capability model, successfully using the competencies in the “Developing Professional Capability” section of the model. I desired to expand beyond that niche. When I looked into the CPTD, I saw that the two other areas, “Building Personal Capability” and "Impacting Organizational Capability” aligned with the goals I had within my role at the company I was working for at the time. I put together a short proposal, and I was fortunate that my manager also saw the potential opportunity of expanding my skill set and seeing where it would impact the organization in a direction they were also hoping to strategically expand.

Are you willing to share a fun fact about yourself?

It rarely comes up that I get to tell this story…My husband and I spent two years doing yoga at the park with professional wrestlers. I was traveling for work and met Dimond Dallas Page (DDP). (I might be dating myself here, lol. This was in the WCW and WWF era). He shared with me that he was trying to find yoga techniques that could help fellow wrestlers, as well as the average person. As he was learning more about yoga and what would work, we would go through sessions every Saturday in the park. DDP has been at our house for holiday events and sends me a birthday greeting every year.
