ATD Talent Development Capability Model
Both the CPTD® and the APTD® are based upon the ATD Competency Model. The ATD Competency Model redefines the skills and knowledge required for talent development professionals to be successful now and in the future. It captures changes driven by digital, mobile, and social technology; demographic shifts; globalization; and economic forces.
What is the CPTD?
The Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) is a professional certification for TD professionals with at least five years of experience. It is broad and measures a professional’s knowledge and skill application across the breadth of talent development capabilities.

What is the APTD?
The Associate Professional in Talent Development (APTD) will serve the needs of talent development professionals who are in the early part of their career or whose professional roles and aspirations are focused on a few AOEs. ATD frequently hears from practitioners the world that they are interested in differentiating their expertise, but with a narrower focus than the CPLP certification.

Regarding the study methods, I would say that our group was a tremendous help (thank you, thank you). It kept me on track and I then went back to review the chapters, materials that we put together as a group, and completed the practice test questions provided by Owls Ledge, in addition to the CPLP. The tests really helped me get used to testing and the types of questions I would encounter - it's been a long time since I've taken a test like this!
